However, I was able to reduce my cholesterol enough so that my GP stopped trying to treat me with statins. My biggest issue, and the hardest to overcome, is that my husband is not on board whatsoever And it’s hard to find recipes or do cooking for one.

My favorite is-anything with soy sauce and sesame oil. Then I lightly pat some corn starch all over the cubes and fry them up. They come out with crispy edges. Good hot ir cold.

Comment on Are Microwave Ovens Safe To Use? by Vani https://foodrevolution.org/blog/are-microwave-ovens-safe/#comments/11586 Thu, 24 Jul 2025 23:33:30 +0000 https://foodrevolution.org/?p=19318#comment-11586 As with anything harmful but hugely profitable the industry is insuring the articles that ”debunk” the negative consequences and praise the “advantages” of their product come up first in the search engines. Googling for example “are microwave ovens safe” brings up lots of positive “information” by ”trustworthy” sources. Many good people fall for the deception.
The sad reality of capitalism.

I use pyrex glass covered with a piece of wax paper to reheat things. Is wax paper unsafe?

As long as they are not touching the food, they are relatively safe, particularly silicone. –Ina, Food Revolution Network Team

Hi Walt! There are a number of things that could cause this. If the bowls are very cold when you put them in the microwave, the drop in temperature could be causing the sound. Uneven heating, crackling of the food against the bowl, and the microwave itself could all be causing the sound as well. If it’s not happening with any other type of dish, then I would say it’s likely either a temperature difference, or an uneven heating situation. However, I am by no means an expert–so if you are very concerned, you may wish to ask your question at an appliance shop where they know more about the mechanism. –Ina, Food Revolution Network Team

Hi Rhonda! Thank you for the question. Silicone is generally safe in the microwave, but only when you use high-quality, food-grade, microwave‑safe silicone.

Silicone is heat-resistant & non-reactive. Food-grade silicone can typically withstand temperatures between –40 °F to 450 °F (–40 °C to 232 °C), even in microwave conditions, without melting or releasing chemicals. It also doesn’t leach toxins– Unlike many plastics, silicone is inert and non‑toxic when heated, so there’s no concern about harmful chemicals migrating into food.

I hope this helps! –Ina, Food Revolution Network Team
